Book this date now to make sure you don’t miss the 15th TARS Literary Weekend
Cirencester itself is often called the Capital of the
Cotswolds and was the second largest town in Britain
during Roman times. It has much to offer the visitor,
from excellent museums, parks and churches to
sculpture trails, a Roman amphitheatre, architectural
gems galore and at least two second-hand bookshops.
The 2019 Conference is to be held in the magnificent
splendour of the Royal Agricultural University at
Cirencester. The Campus is not just ideal for all our
purposes, it is a joy to visit, being set in a 25-acre site
in the glorious Cotswolds. Its facilities combine the best
of the old and the new. For the new, the conference
facilities are state of the art with an accessible
conference room with modern audio-visual technology
(including microphones that work), and adjacent rooms
for the TARS Library, stalls and coffee breaks. The
bedrooms, which are en suite and include doubles and
twins, have internet access and earn Quality in Tourism
3-star ratings. The old can be found in some of their
historic buildings – the bar is in a 17th-century tithe
barn and the elegant dining facilities are housed in
classic Victorian Gothic halls. There is free parking for
up to 200 cars and we also have access to a café, gym
and shop.

The Committee is putting together the usual varied and
excellent programme. Although we have approached a
number of outside speakers, we are keen for some of
our own members to contribute and we would be
pleased to hear from anyone willing to give a talk.
If you feel a full 40-minute presentation is too much,
then why not volunteer to give a 20-minute cameo? All
topics with a Ransome- or literary-related theme would
be acceptable. Please contact Peter Wright on 0121 443
2910 or via e-mail (peterwright180@btinternet.com) if
you would like to take part or discuss further.
