January 23: AR’s Birthday Lunch, The Butt & Oyster, Pin Mill (IP9 1JW). Linda Pargetter (Wherry Maud Trust) 12.30 for 13.00 . Book for lunch with Ted & Diana Evans (01394388295; east@arthur-ransome.org.uk.

February 16: Shackleton Exhibition, Scott-Polar Institute, Lensfield Road, Cambridge CB2 1EP. Meet at10.30 am for lecture followed by exhibition. Easiest approach from Trumpington Park & Ride and bus down Trumpington St, stopping at Lensfield Road. Book with Brian Key (01245 263579; key@arthur-ransome.org.uk ). There will be a small charge.

April 16 : Lucy Lavers Lifeboat trip and Rescued Wooden Boats, 11 am at the Visitor Centre, Greenway, Stiffkey NR23 1QF. Packed lunch recommended. Afternoon: Trips aboard Lucy Lavers at Wells-next-the Sea (c45 minutes, max 10 persons per trip). Cost £10 (£5 for those who don’t wish to sail); Juniors free. April 29-May 2nd: IAGM at Dumfries, Scotland . See Signals and arthur-ransome.org.uk.

May 14: Day trip on Wherry Albion (Sir Garnet in the Coot Club film). 0900 to 1700 from the Albion’s base at Norfolk Wherry Trust, Forsythe Wherry Yard, Horsefen Road, Ludham NR29 5QG. Bring your own lunch. Wear non-slip sole shoes and outdoor clothing. Opportunities to steer, quant, hoist sails etc. £24 per head. June 11: Wade Walk, pub lunch and visit to Naze Tower. Book with Brian Hammett (01473 231066; brian@arthur-ransome.org.uk)

June 25/26: Swamazons Camp at Walton and Frinton YC with the Old Gaffers Association. Swallows and Amazons Dinghy Race round Swallow Island; Build your own model boat and race. Contact the OGA organizer: Pete Elliston (01206 391870; ecsec@oldgaffersassociation.org) for launching your dinghy, camping and to make bookings or for advice on B&Bs, etc.

July 16: Oulton Broad Day: Broads yacht, open boat and dinghy sailing – yours or others. Meet at 10 am at Penney and Ian Northover-Smith’s, 5 Ice House Quay, Commodore Road, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk (NR32 3QU). August 20/21: OGA Regatta, Ipswich Haven marina

October 8th: Literary Afternoon, URC Church Hall, Whiting St, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 1NR: Daniel Dahl: “Drawing us in: Arthur Ransome as illustrator”; Jim Ring on the Riddle of the Sands. 2 pm to 5.30 pm. Parking on site. £8 per head for hire and refreshments. Optional meal afterwards at local restaurant. Book with Ted Evans (01394388295; east@arthur-ransome.org.uk.

November 12th: Regional AGM @ Pin Mill Sailing Club. Gather 11am onwards for Nancy Blackett Stall; slides, coffee and chat. 12.15 pm Lunch at Butt & Oyster. 2 pm: Speaker: Robert Simper on: “East Coast Rivers in the Ransome Era”. 3.15 pm: Regional AGM; 4pm: Tea and Rattletraps.
