We hope you can join us on Saturday 2nd March 2013 for
A Day in Bishopsteignton and
Our venue is the community hall in Bishopsteignton but the parking here is limited so come here to drop off food and then park in Lawns End Car Park off Forder Lane. At 10.15am we will meet in the Lawns End recreational field (adjoining the car park) to start our walk. If you do not want walk you can stay in the hall. We will be walking over fields, across the railway, to the River Teign beach. If possible we will walk along the riverbank before a brief walk up to main road to pass both of Ivy Ransome’s houses. Wellies or rugged waterproof footwear recommended. We will return to the hall for 12.00pm for our “Bring and Scoff”. After lunch we are able to explore the museum and meet a local historian who used to deliver to Ivy’s household.
At 2pm we will set off to explore Teignmouth and have afternoon tea there.
There will be a £5 charge for adults to cover costs. Juniors free.
Please let us know if you can come by sending an email to email@example.com

SW RECENT EVENTS
After the success of our walk organised by John Haslam in September if any of you would like to lead a favourite walk in your area please get in touch to tell us about it.
We had a wonderful day on the 20th of October. In the morning we had an exhilarating walk on Exmoor, followed by a fantastic “Bring and Scoff”. In the afternoon David and Jill Lane captivated us with their talks on “The Bounty” and Tales of the Pitcairns”.
TARS SW DARTMOOR EXPEDITION 2012
Saturday 21st April
Photo courtesy of Heather Woodland. Thanks to John Strickland for substituting this venture for the one originally planned on the Blackdown Hills. As you see woolly hats and waterproofs were definitely required, but, as always, the intrepid band of Tars enjoyed this 5 miler (some still thought it to be longer), and then quizzed triumphantly in the pub later. Congratulations to John Haslam for winning the quiz.
SWAGM January 21st 2012 at Devon Hotel, Exeter.
Forty seven members attended and enjoyed the excellent lunch.
Ted Alexander was our special guest and speaker and gave us valuable insights into Ivy and Tabitha.
A members’ forum was well received and provided helpful discussion.
Pippa Doxat-Pratt retired after ten years great work as secretary.
Yvonne Varley also stepped down from the chairmanship after several years of effective work.
Ted cut another magnificent Arthur birthday cake provided with such skill and care by Lindy Foster.
Bring and Scoff at Uplyme Saturday 15th October
The sun shone. Tars paddled at Lyme Regis. There was a lot of food for lunch.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the play reading (Christmas Signals will reveal all)
John Strickland’s quizzes were hard. Yvonne and Gill won.
Thanks to Susan and the Gouldbourne family for a lovely day.
Dartmoor Expedition 25th July 2011
Despite disappointing cloudy weather this was otherwise another great day, with 26 Tars and visitors of from aged 8 to 80 present. No less than 16 of these took part in the Strickland yomp – and…..survived! Base camp was centred around a mini-gazebo with imaginary en-suite facilities.

25th June 2011
This was a great day out courtesy of
Martin and Judith Dale and made special
by the tuition given by their son David,

SW AGM and AR Birthday at Exeter 14th January
Forty Six folks attended. Our Guest of Honour was Gabriel Woolf who read some of our favourite extracts. He cut the AR cake. We had a great carvery lunch, lots of conversation and the customary AR friendship. Thanks to all who came. This was a real team effort with positive contributions from all quarters.
